Dear Friends,

There was a recent meeting between members of the synagogue's Executive Board and several members of the Sisterhood.  Among the items discussed included the need for some sponsors for Friday night onegs.  Most onegs have already been "spoken for."  Some, about 20 a year, require sponsors.  In the past Carol Kosman has called congregants and asked for their help.  Overall the congregation has been quite responsive in helping out.  We are now reaching a point where it would be appropriate for Carol and Sisterhood to have willing families agree to pay for these onegs without forcing Carol to make these calls.

I know that I have asked many families to be generous in giving to the Synagogue.  I ask again for your help by agreeing to sponsor a Friday night oneg.  It could be in honor of a child or parent or special anniversary or in memory of a loved one.  The cost of sponsoring an oneg begins at about $60.  Please contact Carol or the Beth Sholom office to arrange an appropriate week for your dedication.

Our bingo games continue to thrive.  We all benefit by the outstanding work of Richard Stern, Michael Elkon and Carl Lazerow, along with all of the other Bingo captains and workers.  We again need additional help on almost all Sunday and Monday nights.  If you don't work Bingo, please start.  If you already work Bingo, please consider working an extra evening a month.  If you are looking for something different, think about assisting Sisterhood in the kitchen.

The following are the highlights of the March 11th Board of Trustees meeting.

Treasurer's ReportJoanna Pierson advised that income continues to fall somewhat below projections.  Although not a huge deficit, we need to closely watch our cash flow.  Even though the house at 1007 N. Market St. has been empty for several months, building fund income is near projections. [The house has since been rented.]

Budget and Finance CommitteeAndy Meckelburg reported that the Budget and Finance Committee has had several meetings during the past month.  They are still working toward presenting a balanced budget at next month's meeting.

SisterhoodIrene Stephen reported that Sisterhood is reviewing their fee structure.  Additionally, Sisterhood presented a final copy of the job description for kitchen manager and kitchen assistant.

Bingo Michael Elkon presented an update of the Bingo games.  The new speaker system has been well-received by our players.  It has dramatically improved their ability to hear the callers.  The new bingo console is also working very well.  As mentioned above, we need more volunteers to help with the games.

House CommitteeBruce Zavos reported that he met with a staff person for the Historic Commission in a discussion of the porch at the Rabbi's house.  They suggested that since the structure was located in the rear of the house, a redesign would likely be approved.

Board of EducationCindi Diamondstone reported that the Board is looking at ways to restructure the Sunday Hebrew school programs.  They will continue to meet and will likely forward their ideas in the next several months.

Next meeting is scheduled for April 15, at 7:30 pm in the Weinberg Chapel.

Volunteer of the Month:  Please join me in congratulating Michael Elkon as the April volunteer of the month.  Michael works very hard for our Bingo games.  He has been very active in recently revamping our operation.  He was involved in the selection of our new callers table and also helped with the new sound system in the Social Hall.  Michael's involvement with Bingo over many years has greatly enhanced the success of our game.  The congregation greatly appreciates his help.
