Dear Friends,

My tenure as president of this fine congregation has come to an end. Prior to my two-year term, I was both the Vice President and the Treasurer for three years each, and an at-large member of the Board of Trustees before that.

What I did not realize as I started on the board, was the incredible amount of energy necessary to continue moving the Synagogue on its positive path. There truly are scores of volunteers that serve on committees that add so much value for all of us. Our staff is also first rate. Rabbi Kosman and Rabbi Wiesenberg do so much it would be foolish to begin listing how they touch nearly all of us. Our executive director, Pauline Horn, and administrative assistant, Janet Potash, are both hard working and very dedicated.

Our Congregation is quite diverse, yet we all try to find our own spiritual way within our framework. Though there are some differences on how we would like to see our Synagogue evolve, it is heartening to know that nearly all of us remain committed.  I  encourage each you to remain involved with your Synagogue. Besides the satisfaction gained by helping out, the lasting friendships developed within our Synagogue are wonderful.

The following are the highlights of the June 10th Board of Trustees meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: Andy Mekelburg reported that as we approach the end of our fiscal year, and with a few minor exceptions, we are following closely to our budget.

Sisterhood: Irene Stephen advised that Sisterhood has been releasing some workers from the kitchen during Bingo games to help staff on the floor. She also advised that we replaced the ice machine with a new one.

Bingo: Richard Stern reported that our Bingo games are doing pretty well; however, we continue to need more workers. There are also some captains retiring. On a positive note, some new congregants have been stepping in and assisting.

Old Business: Andy Carpel spoke about the upcoming Jewish Heritage Day associated with the Frederick Keys at Harry Grove Stadium on July 25th. We will be selling tickets at a discount to our members. It will be a fun day. Please make every attempt to attend and represent our Shul.

Final thought: I am excited that Andy Carpel was chosen to be the next President of our Congregation. Andy has a deep knowledge of the intricacies of our Synagogue and he is aware of our needs as we continue to move forward. Andy will do a fine job. Please extend him the same support that you showed me.

Volunteer of the Month:  Please allow me to nominate my family as the Beth Sholom volunteers of the month. Although I have gladly attended many meetings and devoted much time for the Synagogue during the past several years, it has reduced the amount of time that I have been able to spend with my wife Micki and three children Brian, Bayla, and Molly. They have all been wonderfully understanding of the importance of allowing me to help attend to the Synagogue needs, guilt-free. Please join me in thanking them.

Have a relaxing summer. See you at the High Holiday services.
