The Board met on Wednesday, February 13.  Our Treasurer Garry Cohen reported that we are doing well fiscally and we are making  payments consistently toward the principal for our building.

Marcia Newfeld reported that bingo is very busy and doing very well; however, we always need  help.

The Budget and Finance Committee will be holding several meetings during March.  Budget requests are due.

Marty Potash, chairman of the Long Range Planning Committee, reported that Rabbi Shimon Levine, a Florida native who is in the process of moving to Baltimore, may be interested in the Assistant Religious Director position.  We will be setting up a meeting with him.  There was a lengthy discussion regarding whether to proceed with plans to expand the building and hiring of an architect; the LRP will meet later this month and make a recommendation to the Board.

Amy Gross, president of the Board of Education, reported that the staffing looks good for next year.  There was a discussion regarding non-member families sending their children to our confirmation classes; the Board voted to accept children of non-members in the confirmation class at double the tuition rate for members.  The Board also approved the BOE's plan to run a raffle as a fundraiser.  Marcia Newfeld reported  that the process for making the day school a separate non-profit organization is in the works.

Carl Lazerow, House Committee chairman, stated that the electrical project at the Rabbi's house is almost completed.  Plaster repairs and painting will be the next project at the Rabbi’s.  Bruce Zavos is finishing a plan for acoustic treatment for the social hall.  Purchase of a Kippot box for the rear entrance to the community center was approved.  We are seeking second estimates for cabinetwork in four of the classrooms and for repainting the Rabbi's house.  We will be putting a doorway leading from the hall into the library at the Community Center in order to use the room more effectively.

Sharon Botkin reported that the Gala Committee has identified several possibilities for this year's event, including holding the affair at an outside location.  Anyone interested in helping with the event is encouraged to attend the next meeting on March 10 at the Erlichman's house.

Sylvia Elfman reported that Passover merchandise is now available in the gift shop.  Also, the model seder is scheduled for March 24.

New Member Committee Sylvia Haber reported that several suggestions for increasing membership were made, including a new member kiddush and a children's service.

By-law changes were reviewed and approved for presentation at the congregational meeting on May 1st.

Beth Sholom is a vibrant congregation experiencing tremendous growth.  As such, we need our community members to participate as much as possible in as many areas as possible.  If you or a family member is able to help with any of our programs -- youth, cultural, education, religious, fundraising, etc. -- please contact either Marcia or Janet at the office.

Don't forget about the importance of Bingo!  Your contribution of time has been, is, will be appreciated.  Remember, B-12 is more than just a vitamin!
