Student and Parent Resources

Welcome from the Director

The school year started with great success. We have a phenomenal staff this year—Morah Shoshana Herron teaches the K-1 class, Morah Michal Stein is the 2-3 grade teacher, I teach the 4th grade, Morah Gali Spigelman teaches the 5-7 grade class and Morah Stephanie Paffrath is the 8th grade and high school teacher. On Thursdays Stephanie, Rob Newfeld and I serve as the Hebrew teachers and Elisheva Frankel is our Hebrew tutor.

The Hebrew curriculum has been completely revamped. Each grade has defined objectives and we have added a second day of instruction each week—Thursdays—that is completely devoted to Hebrew.

While we believe these and other changes will improve the level of Hebrew reading competency and understanding among students, we are also asking parents to partner with us using the resources linked to each class' web page to reinforce what is being taught in the classroom.

We have also instituted a distance learning program for students who cannot attend the Thursday sessions and have reached out to our high schoolers to serve as classroom aides—madrichim.

I am excited to work with you and your children and look forward to a wonderful year. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by
e-mail at morabatya@bethsholomfrederick.org. I value your support and feedback.

Meet Batya Toso
Originally from Baltimore, Batya and her husband have lived in Frederick for the last six years. She has taught at Beth Sholom for four years and is pursuing a bachelor's degree in elementary and special education at Towson University. Batya believes students learn better if they have many opportunities for hands-on activities that actively engage them in their learning experiences. In her spare time, Batya likes to play piano, and she enjoys hiking, running and volunteering for the ARC of Frederick County.
